Jessica is a founding partner with Smith Bowers, PLLC and serves as outside counsel for businesses, as well as personal counsel to individuals. She concentrates her practice in the areas of surety law, construction law, business law and litigation, collections, employment law, and appellate law. She is also a certified mediator and thoroughly enjoys assisting parties in resolving their differences while reducing their cost and mitigating their risk.
Jessica is highly experienced in litigation, in both federal and state courts, as well as alternative dispute resolution, within a variety of practice areas as well as assisting her clients in extensive business transactions. Jessica is an active member of the Surety Claims Institute, National Bond Claims Association, and the Construction Law section, as well as the Construction Law Council, of the North Carolina Bar Association. She is routinely published on suretyship, construction, and small business topics and she regularly presents at conferences around the country.
She was selected to Super Lawyers® for surety law in 2021-2024 and to Super Lawyers Rising Stars® for surety law from 2013-2019. Jessica received her B.A. from Pensacola Christian College in 2000 and her J.D. cum laude from Campbell University, the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law in 2005.
When she is not working, Jessica enjoys traveling and cooking with her son, Jackson. Since 2019, Jessica has enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors for TLC, and most recently served as the Chair of the Board for 2023-2024. TLC was founded as the Tammy Lynn Center, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. TLC offers a range of services which provides opportunities for those with profound disabilities to live and be part of their community, close to their families, with skilled care and the support they deserve to live their fullest lives.
